ARCserveIT features and product options

Automated media management

ARCserveIT automates the management of a host of mainframe-class media options, including:

media pooling and media rotation
ARCserveIT can manage media as one unit in two sets: Save and Scratch Sets. Each time a media in the Scratch Set is written to, it moves from the Scratch Set to the Save Set. The Save Set media contains backup data that will not be overwritten.

Once the media in the Save Set has passed certain expiration criteria, it is recycled into the Scratch Set and re-used. Each time media from the Scratch Set is written to, it moves from the Scratch Set back to the Save Set. Tape usage is optimized by retaining recent backups and retiring old ones.

media serial number & bar code support for auto changers
ARCserveIT automatically assigns permanent serial numbers to tape media when they are introduced into the media pool. When an auto changer with a barcode reader is used, ARCserveIT automatically assigns the tape serial number from the bar code label. This enables quick autochanger inventory, automatic media verification, and prevents overwriting of data.
