What is ARCserveIT?

ARCserveIT is a data management system that allows you to backup and restore data on servers and all workstations attached to the network.

ARCserveIT uses the client/server architecture that functions within a domain (or group) of ARCserveIT servers. The components that make up the ARCserveIT system include:

Web-based access to all ARCserveIT Manager windows

All ARCserveIT Manager windows are accessed via your web browser, which can be run from any machine on your network as long as a Java-enabled browser is installed on this machine. Once connected to an ARCserveIT web server, the ARCserveIT Manager for that domain is displayed. A Java Applet is then downloaded to the web browser allowing access to each individual manager window, which allows various tasks to be performed such as backup, restore, etc..

The ARCserveIT Manager

The ARCserveIT Manager consists of a Java Applet which provide access to the various ARCserveIT servers within each ARCserveIT Domain.

The ARCserveIT server

The ARCserveIT server runs on a UNIX file server, and consists of ARCserveIT's back-end core services. These core services make up the ARCserveIT engine that process all jobs, and updates information about jobs in ARCserveIT's activity logs and databases. For more detailed information, see The ARCserveIT server.

An ARCserveIT server may also be designated to run as the domain's Discovery service, which functions as the information station for a given ARCserveIT domain. For more detailed information, see The ARCserveIT domain.

The Client Agent for UNIX

The Client Agent for UNIX enables the directory structure of a given workstation to be browsed, in addition to handling the transfer of data.

The Client Agent for UNIX is required in order to browse or perform any operations on any target host.
