The Node Option tab enables you to modify how ARCserveIT will handle specific node options for the backup job. Options available from this tab include:
- the type of information written to the ARCserveIT Database
- the Node priority during backup
- The format in which to backup selected files
- whether or not to have ARCserveIT traverse symbolic links and NFS mounted file systems
- control over file access times and backup estimation
The Database tab has two options for controlling the amount of information that is written to the ARCserveIT database per job:
- Record Detail Information - records detailed information for each backup job including the session and each file name within that session.
- Record Job and Session Information Only - records only the job and sessions within that job.
When selecting multiple nodes for backup, ARCserveIT enables you to set each node's priority, establishing which node will get backed up first.
The priority range is 1 to 255, with the default number of 255 being the lowest priority.
The ARCserveIT default setting is to backup data in it's own native format. As an alternative, you can backup your files in tar or cpio format, allowing the data to be accessed using standard UNIX backup formats.

ARCserveIT uses the posix header when backing up files in cpio format. The cpio utility on some UNIX systems does not read this type of header by default. When this scenario occurs, the -H switch should be applied to the cpio command line.

The Misc tab enables the following options to be set in relation to the selected node:
- Traverse symbolic link file - select this option if you want ARCserveIT to follow symbolic links and backup the linked files. (This option is for UNIX only).
- Traverse across file system - select this option to have ARCserveIT automatically include locally mounted UNIX file systems. (This option is for UNIX only).
- Don't Reset file access time - this option is provided in order to decrease the backup time when using Solaris. This flag is provided for in the event that your operating system locks. (This option is for UNIX only).
- Disable File Estimation - Disables the default setting to run an estimation for the backup job.
- Traverse NFS - select this option if you want ARCserveIT to backup NFS mounted drives. (This option is for UNIX only).
