Creating a media pool

To assign media to a media pool, you first need to create the media pool. You can create media pools using the ARCserveIT Media Pool Manager.

The Media Pool Manager appears with each existing media pool shown on the left side of the window. In general, highlighting the media pool records on the left, displays media pool information on the right.

The Add Media Pool dialog box appears. This dialog box is where you will enter media pool information such as:

• Media Pool Name
• Base Serial Number
• Next Serial Number
• Maximum Serial Number
• Serial Number Increments
• Minimum Save Set Copies
• Retention Period (days)

ARCserveIT will set the base, next and maximum serial numbers, although all fields can be modified to suit your requirements.

The new media pool icon appears in the left pane, together with the name of the media pool. You can now assign media to this media pool

ARCserveIT also creates a media pool or pools (if they don't already exist) when you submit a backup job either using Rotation or GFS backup.
