Command line usage overview

The ARCserveIT command line enables direct control over all operations that can be performed by an ARCserveIT server via the UNIX prompt. Using ARCserveIT's command line utilities provides an alternative method of accessing almost all of the operations available from the ARCserveIT manager.

In order to use the command line feature, the complete ARCserveIT system must be installed on the server being utilized, and the $ARC_HOME variable must be set.

Listing of command line utilities

The available ARCserveIT command line utilities along with a description of their basic usage is presented in the table shown below:

Utility

Usage

Basic usage, syntax and argument information

The examples shown in this chapter are being presented in order to show how some of the basic ARCserveIT operations would be completed via ARCserveIT's command line utilities.

The syntax/usage associated with each utility, can be accessed by typing the name of the utility at the UNIX prompt. For example, to find out more information about backing up files, you would type:

as_backup

For more detailed information including arguments and switches, you would type the utility name followed by an argument. For example, to find out the scheduling options available, you would type:

as_backup runjob

ARCserveIT would then display:

Run Job Usage :
as_backup [-at <hh:mm>]
as_backup [-on <mm/dd/yy[yy]>]
as_backup [-hold|-runjobnow]
as_backup [-description <description string>]
