Configuring and managing the help server

Configuring FastTrack servers

The SCO online documentation server (scohelphttpd) is installed and configured by default at installation time. You can modify the configuration of the documentation server or configure additional servers using the Server Selector.

To start the Server Selector, run the SCOadmin Netscape Server Admin manager in one of these ways:

The Netscape Server Admin starts the Netscape Communicator browser and starts the Netscape Administration Server.

Log in using the admin username and the system root password.

From the Server Selector, you can:

Choose a Netscape FastTrack server to configure:

Click on the server to configure; this starts the Server Manager for the selected server. (To configure the scohelphttpd server, click on scohelphttp.)

WARNING: Be very careful when making changes to the scohelphttp configuration or you might not then be able to access the online documentation on this system.

From the Server Manager, the following options are available:

System Settings
This includes starting and stopping the server, viewing current settings, restoring configuration files from backups, tuning server performance, changing network settings, and creating customized error responses.

Access Control
This includes controlling access to your server by creating and removing users and groups, restricting access for users and groups, and denying or allowing access to resources. This option also provides for creating and managing access control databases.

Encryption
This includes enabling or disabling encryption and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer); specifying security preferences; and requesting, installing, and managing certificates.

Programs
This includes setting up your server to run server-side programs, such as Java(TM) applets, LiveWire applications, CGI programs.

Server Status
This includes viewing access and error log files, monitoring current activity, archiving log files, specifying logging preferences, and generating reports from log files.

Config Styles
This includes setting up and managing ``configuration styles'', sets of options (such as access logging) that you can apply to files and directories that you want to log.

Content Management
This includes setting the primary document directory (DocumentRoot), setting additional document directories, customizing user public information directories, enabling remote file manipulation, configuring document preferences, setting up forwarding URLs, setting up software virtual servers, assigning a character set, specifying a document footer, and customizing parsed HTML.

Install another web server on the system:

Click on Install a new Netscape FastTrack Server.

Remove a server from the system:

Click on Remove a server from this machine.

WARNING: If you remove the scohelphttpd server (httpd-scohelphttp), you will not be able to access the online documentation on this system.

For more information, see the Netscape FastTrack online documentation, available by clicking on the Help button on any window in the Server Manager.

To stop the Netscape Administration Server, enter:

nsadmin stop

See nsadmin(1M).
