Browser and server
The SCOhelp browser is Netscape
Communicator.
It includes support for the following features of HTML
that are used in the SCOhelp browser:
- Frames
-
The SCOhelp browser window defines the basic set of frames within the
content should be displayed.
- HTML tables
-
A provision is made for conditionally displaying a plain-text
version of a table for browsers that cannot display tables,
such as
lynx(1).
- JavaScript
-
The SCO documentation provided with UnixWare 7 implements a limited
use of JavaScript
to enhance navigation.
See
Netscape JavaScript Guide
for information on programming
with JavaScript.
To keep the system as open as possible, the SCO documentation
avoids the use of proprietary features of HTML
and the browser where possible.
This should permit the use of alternative browsers that are reasonably
up to date with these features.
See
``Creating HTML files''
for information on HTML usage for use with the SCOhelp system.
The Netscape browser ships with the following default configuration
for the SCOhelp browser:
-
The interface is simplified to make it more usable for accessing online
documentation.
-
The logo is different.
The HTTP server for SCOhelp documentation is the
Netscape FastTrack server.
The server is configured on port 457, the registered
port number for SCOhelp access.
The standard server is enhanced with CGI programs for
man page access and for searching, and with server plugins for
language selection and
conditional HTML processing.
See the
Netscape FastTrack Server Administrator's Guide
and the
Netscape FastTrack Server Programmer's Guide
for more information.
