Topic directories
Below each language directory is a flat list of
directories, each containing the HTML content files
for a subject area (``topic'') or book.
A topic directory:
-
is the smallest unit of documentation that is initially installed
-
is named with a unique identifier (``topicID'')
for that collection of content
-
contains a collection of related HTML files,
with no subdirectories for that purpose
-
can include a graphics subdirectory if the topic
contains graphics
-
can contain
the
``Book metadata file''
and
``Nodes metadata file''
(.book and .node)
which provide information about the HTML topic
files for processing by the installation tools
-
can contain
view stanza files
(.view) which provide information on
generating the views
-
contains several files generated by the installation tools,
including a .titles file
-
usually includes a table of contents file
(typically, but not necessarily named CONTENTS.html),
which the HTTP server
automatically displays when a user selects a topic directory
