Managing filesystem types

The s5 boot block

Although considered to be part of the filesystem, the boot block is not actually used by it. The boot block is reserved for storing procedures used in booting the system. However, not all filesystems are involved in booting. When a filesystem is not to be used for booting, the boot block is left unused.
