Adding and configuring modems

Supported modems

Any external 100% Hayes-compatible modem should work provided that it is connected to a serial port that is capable of supporting modem control protocols. Some third-party multiport smart serial cards cannot be used as they do not support modem control.

SCO has successfully tested several Hayes-compatible internal and PCMCIA modems. Some older models of internal modem have compatibility problems which prevent them from working properly. For example, they may flood the system bus with spurious interrupts, or they may not support the quiet, no-echo, or auto-answer modes.

Support for modems is provided by atdialer configuration files. As new modems come onto the market, SCO will make new atdialer files available; consult the SCO Compatible Hardware Web Page (CHWP) for the most current hardware support information. See ``Accessing the SCO Compatible Hardware Web Pages'' for more information.

For information on non-supported modems, see ``Guidelines for non-supported modems''.
