Adding and configuring modems

Testing whether you can dial in

If you want to allow dial-in connections, follow these steps to test your system:

  1. Check that the modem is set to auto-answer. There may be an ``Auto Answer'' light on the modem's front panel to show this.

  2. Enable the modem control port using the sacadm -e (see sacadm(1M)) and pmadm(1M) commands. Refer to ``Installing a non-supported modem'' where an example of disabling a port is given.

  3. Dial this modem from another modem.
If you have any problems, see ``Problems dialing in''.

If incoming data is being lost on a high-speed modem, then, for maximum performance, increase the trigger level to 14 using the Serial Manager. See ``Configuring a serial port'' for more information.
