Driver configuration

Use the Network Configuration Manager to configure a driver.

PCI, EISA, and MCA adapters may not require that you supply special driver configuration parameters, because most configuration information is detected automatically.

If you are configuring ISA or PC Card (PCMCIA) adapters:

• You will be prompted for the network topology appropriate to your LAN; Ethernet, Token-Ring, and FDDI are currently supported. Only topologies with corresponding drivers installed on your machine are displayed.

• You will be prompted for any information that the system cannot detect automatically. You must supply parameters that match those that are defined for the adapter and do not conflict with the settings that are already in use by other hardware installed on your system. See ``Configuration parameters'' for more information.

  You might also be prompted for ``custom'' parameters specific to your adapter; see the corresponding configuration notes for more information about these parameters.

• The Network Configuration Manager performs ``ISA filtering'' to check that network driver parameters do not conflict with those of any other installed driver. Values already in use are not displayed.

  Use the DCU (Device Configuration Utility) if you need to free a value for your LAN device.

• For some software-configurable ISA adapters, the Network Configuration Manager first configures the driver, then writes driver configuration parameters to the adapter.
