is the suite of protocols underlying the Novell®
network operating system, NetWare®.
NetWare servers control operation of the network and provides the core
functionality for the network filesystem, memory management and
scheduling of processing tasks such as file and print-sharing.
They handle functionality common to many users, such as
file and record locking and database queries.
The IPX/SPX transport protocol is normally used to facilitate communication between NetWare servers and their clients. Use the Network Configuration Manager to configure IPX/SPX over a network interface. Then use the NetWare Setup Manager to configure NetWare services over IPX/SPX.
It is also possible to configure NetWare services over TCP/IP. To allow this, you must use the Network Configuration Manager to select IPX/SPX to run over TCP/IP before running the NetWare Setup Manager to configure NetWare services over NWIP. See ``NWIP configuration parameters'' for more information.
For detailed information about the configuration and operation of NetWare services and the IPX/SPX protocol suite, see Administering NUC Connectivity.
