Troubleshooting IPX/SPX

Addressing problems

The Network Configuration Manager prevents many potential installation errors with IPX/SPX. However, it is important to have a clear picture of the network topology prior to software installation. This is particularly important when routers and multiple subnetworks are being configured.

Incorrect specification of internal or external network numbers cause host addressing problems. It is advisable to establish a numbering convention to distinguish internal (logical) networks from external (physical) networks. This makes the interpretation of the outputs from utilities such as drouter(1ipx) much easier. External network numbers should be identical for hosts on the same network segment. All internal network numbers should be unique.
