The LDAP Manager

Specifying a database type

To configure a backend database, select the Backend database -> Add (or Modify) menu option then select the ldbm or shell option, as follows:

ldbm
Identifies a Berkeley B-Tree db database.

shell
Allows the administrator to attach a customized backend database by means of a series of executable files, usually shell scripts. See ``Writing a SHELL backend database'' for more details.
A screen entitled ``Add new backend database'' appears, with a template database definition (common to both types) and the following menu options: The first field on the screen merely confirms the database type selected. Alongside this field is a Configure button. The screens that result depend on the database type. For details of ldbm-specific configuration, see ``Configuring an LDBM database''; shell-specific configurations are described in ``Configuring a shell database''.
