LDAP daemon types
The ``Type'' field supplies a short descriptor of the daemon, as follows:
- no databases
-
No backend database has yet been configured for the daemon.
- standalone
-
The daemon does not communicate with any other daemons on any other host.
- master
-
The daemon propagates changes made to the directory to slave daemons
specified by the ``replicas'' options.
- slave
-
The daemon only receives changes to the directory from a master daemon,
the slave thereby being one of the master daemon's replicas.
- master/slave
-
The daemon is a slave, but also has slave daemons to which it propagates
changes to the directory.
The LDAP Manager determines the type of a daemon as follows:
-
If the daemon has one or more slaves, it is a master.
-
If it has a value in its ``Update DN'' field, it is a slave.
-
If it has both of these, it is a master/slave.
The ``Port'' field indicates the number of the port with which that
daemon communicates. See
``Selecting a port number''.
