The LDAP Manager

LDAP daemon types

The ``Type'' field supplies a short descriptor of the daemon, as follows:

no databases
No backend database has yet been configured for the daemon.

standalone
The daemon does not communicate with any other daemons on any other host.

master
The daemon propagates changes made to the directory to slave daemons specified by the ``replicas'' options.

slave
The daemon only receives changes to the directory from a master daemon, the slave thereby being one of the master daemon's replicas.

master/slave
The daemon is a slave, but also has slave daemons to which it propagates changes to the directory.
The LDAP Manager determines the type of a daemon as follows: The ``Port'' field indicates the number of the port with which that daemon communicates. See ``Selecting a port number''.
