Using the NetWare console from UnixWare

Special considerations

  1. When logging in to the NetWare console remotely, it is important to realize that anything that you do on the remote console is mirrored on the real server console.

Conversely, anything done on the server console is mirrored on your remote console display.

For example, if you enter a command on your remote console display, every character you type will be echoed on the real NetWare console. If you switch screens on the remote console while running several installable modules (such as MONITOR and INSTALL), the screen on the real console will switch as well.

Therefore, it is a good idea to make sure that no one is using the real NetWare server console before you access the console remotely.

  2. Since the XCONSOLE session is a remote session, it is not a good idea to bring the server down from your remote session. The XCONSOLE session will be terminated immediately after you issue the DOWN command.
