Overview of NUC Connectivity

NUC interaction with NetWare volumes

``How NUC works'' provides a representation of how the NUC interacts with a typical NetWare server.

How NUC works

First, when a properly configured UnixWare system is booted, the NUC automounter (see mount_nucam(1M)) mounts /.NetWare and creates a directory entry for each known NetWare server under /.NetWare. When a user attempts to access the contents of a directory under /.NetWare, the NUC auto-authenticator is invoked for the appropriate NetWare server if the user is not already logged in to the server. From the command line, auto-authentication is not invoked and you must log in to the server using the nwlogin(1nuc) command. Once the user is logged in to the server and a connection established, the NUC file system (NUCFS) gets the contents of the appropriate volume on the NetWare server and lists it for the user on the UnixWare system. The exact format of the listing and the ability of the user to change permissions and ownership varies according to whether a volume is in DOS, NetWare, or UNIX mode.
