NetWare backup and restore

Restoring privileges

UnixWare file privileges are not backed up by the UnixWare TSA. As a result, any files that you restore from a UnixWare TSA backup of your system will have lost any privilege information previously associated with the files.

It is possible to restore privileges on system files (that is, files originally installed by UnixWare or from a UnixWare package). To do this, you first restore the files from the UnixWare TSA backup and then use initprivs(1M) to restore the privilege information to any system files copied from the backup media.

Privileges on non-system files restored from a UnixWare TSA backup are lost and must be reapplied manually using filepriv(1M).

To reset the appropriate privileges on system files restored from a UnixWare TSA backup:

  1. Log in as root on the system console; or, open a ``Terminal'' window (by selecting Applications followed by Terminal) and use su(1M) to switch to the root login ID.

  2. Enter:

    initprivs

    at the root login prompt.

If initprivs completes successfully, no output is printed and the root login prompt is displayed again. If privileges cannot be re-applied to one or more files, initprivs issues a warning for each one.
