Accessing NetWare volumes from UnixWare

Setting up NetWare volumes

Follow this overall procedure to allow UnixWare users to access NetWare volumes:

  1. Configure NetWare protocols and the NUC on UnixWare.

It is easy to see if your UnixWare system is correctly configured for your NetWare network. Enter the nlist(1nuc) command (with no options) on the command line. In either case, you should see a list of the NetWare servers on your network (or in your default NDS context).

  2. Give all UnixWare users who need one a NetWare login ID. This is done using NetWare utilities from a non-UnixWare (for example, DOS or Windows) NetWare client, using a standard NetWare utility, such as NETADMIN or NWADMIN.

We recommend you use the same login names on NetWare and UnixWare. You may also want to coordinate passwords between NetWare and UnixWare environments. In fact, you must use the same IDs and passwords on NetWare and UnixWare to use UnixWare's single login feature to log in to NetWare transparently.

  3. Decide on access mode support for each volume on each server UnixWare users need to access.

To decide what level of support to provide on the server, refer to ``NetWare volumes, name spaces, and access modes''.

  4. Decide whether or not to install the UnixWare NLMs on NetWare.

    See ``NetWare Loadable Modules''.

  5. If you are going to be using NetWare or UNIX access modes on a NetWare server, set up the user mapping configuration files and the NUC.NLM startup files.

DOS mode volumes require no additional configuration for UnixWare access. See ``Using DOS mode'', ``Using NetWare mode'', and ``Using UNIX mode'' for more information on setting up and using each access mode on a volume.

  6. Set up a work environment for each UnixWare user, if necessary. See ``Setting up a NetWare environment for UnixWare users''.
