To determine which name spaces are loaded on a particular volume and the access mode of the volume:
The easiest way to determine the configuration of a particular NetWare server is to ask the NetWare administrator to tell you which volumes support the DOS name space, and which support the NFS (UNIX) name space. For those that support the NFS name space, ask the administrator which volumes support NetWare mode and which support UNIX mode.
If you have access to the NetWare console (or can access it remotely from UnixWare via XCONSOLE) you can determine the access mode of each mounted volume by examining the output of the NetWare console VOLUMES command and the load nuc line in the file SYS:SYSTEM\UNISTART.NCF file.

Examine the permissions and ownership listed for various files on the volume, using, for example, the ls(1) command from the UnixWare shell. The following clues will help you determine the volume's mode:
