To temporarily stop NIS on a network currently running it,
enter the following command,
first on each client,
and then on the master and slave servers:
sh /etc/init.d/nis stop
This will disable either ypbind, ypserv, or both.
To restart NIS, run sh /etc/init.d/nis start on each master, slave and client machine.
