When changes take effect
When you change a setting in the Profile Editor,
it doesn't take effect immediately.
The Profile Modified icon in the lower-right corner of the Profile Editor
indicates that you've made a change the server doesn't know about yet.
Types of change and their icons
There are three types of change you can make,
and each is represented by a different color background
for the Profile Modified icon.
-
A change that affects everybody immediately
(for example, creating a new share).
The icon background is transparent.
-
A change that won't affect people who are already using a share,
but will affect new users
(for example, changing who can access a share).
The icon background is green.
-
A change that won't affect anybody,
unless you restart the server
(for example, renaming the server).
The icon background is red.
Making changes permanent
When you're happy with the changes you've made,
update the VisionFS server with the new profile
by selecting the Profile menu, then Update Server.
The Profile Modified icon disappears.
Depending on the changes you've made,
the Profile Editor might offer to restart the server for you.
Restarting the server means the Profile Editor must close down.
NOTE:
To avoid causing problems for users,
use the Profile Editor to see who's connected to a server
before restarting it.
