Setting up

Default configuration settings

VisionFS is installed in /usr/vision by default. This directory contains programs and data files shared between Vision97 products.

Whether you accept the defaults or create your own custom configuration, you should be familiar with these settings used by the VisionFS Setup program:

VisionFS Administrator
Only Windows users with VisionFS Administrator privileges can configure the server using the Profile Editor. (Default: root user account on both the Windows client and the UNIX server.)

Server name
The network name used by Windows clients to access the VisionFS server. (Default: what's displayed by the UNIX uname -n command.)

Start on reboot/Run level
The VisionFS server can start automatically when the UNIX server reboots and reaches a certain state. (Default: yes, at run level 3 -- the networking state.)

Start Now
The VisionFS server can start immediately after the Setup program finishes. (Default: yes.)

Checkpoint
VisionFS can automatically produce statistical information and archive log files every week. You can choose the day and time at which the checkpoint occurs. (Default: yes, on Sunday at 4 a.m.)

You can reconfigure these settings at any time. Add and remove VisionFS Administrators or change the server name with the Profile Editor. Change other settings with the visionfs setup command.

If the server isn't configured to start immediately, you can start it without rebooting by using the visionfs start command.

No special VisionFS licensing is needed. VisionFS accepts connections from a number of client computers equal to the number of user logins licensed for the UNIX operating system. VisionFS uses its own license pool and will not reduce the number of UNIX shell logins or network logins allowed.
