Print server setup
A print server is a software program that
monitors and manages printers and print queues. In
NetWare® Services, the print server runs as a
daemon called PSERVER. You can
create print servers in
NetWare Administrator and PCONSOLE, but you can only start the
print server at the NetWare Services server.
Once you've started the print server, you must
load a port driver for each network printer
attached to a workstation. If the printer is
attached to a DOS, Windows, or OS/2
workstation, load NPRINTER.EXE. If
the printer is attached to a UNIX workstation, start
the NPRINTER daemon.
NOTE:
The print server must be started before the
NPRINTER software can be loaded. See
``Local and remote printer setup''.
Third party print devices that connect directly to
the network are also available. These products, when
operated in either remote printer or queue server
mode, provide similar functionality to
PSERVER.
