Configuring IPX and SPX service advertising
Use this procedure to configure service advertising and
control the resources allocated to SAPD.
The following list describes the prerequesites:
-
Access to
scoadmin(1M)
-
System Owner permission to use scoadmin's NetWare Setup
utility
Carry out the following steps:
-
From scoadmin, select NetWare, then select the
NetWare Setup utility.
-
Select IPX/SPX.
-
Select SAP.
The ``IPX/SPX: SAP Setup'' window appears.
-
Set the following variables as appropriate.
-
Basic. The Basic category shows the most commonly
changed UnixWare IPX/SPX
SAP variables:
-
Advertise UnixWare Platform?
This variable controls whether the machine is advertised
as a UnixWare platform. ``Yes'' means other machines
can obtain the server's name and IPX address.
``No'' means other machines cannot detect the server
name or IPX address. This variable must be
set to ``Yes'' if the "Advertise Remote Application
Sharing?" variable is set to ``Yes''.
The default is ``Yes''.
-
Advertise Remote Application Sharing?
This variable controls whether the server advertises remote
application sharing. ``Yes'' means the server advertises that
it has applications to share. ``No'' means the
server does not advertise applications to other machines.
The default is ``No''.
-
Enable Fast SAP Daemon Initialization?
This variable specifies whether the SAPD performs fast
initialization. ``Yes'' means the SAPD becomes operational while
establishing the table of network servers. ``No'' means
the SAPD becomes operational
after establishing a table of known network servers.
The default is ``Yes''.
-
Advanced. The Advanced category shows and allows
you to change the less commonly used IPX/SPX
SAP variables:
-
Maximum Number of SAP Servers.
This variable specifies the maximum number of servers
about which SAPD will maintain information. It determines
the size of shared memory region used by
SAP. If this parameter is too small, new servers that
do not fit in the table are ignored.
The default is 3000.
-
SAP Log Filename.
This variable specifies the name of the log
file for messages generated during normal SAPD operations.
The messages may include unusual SAPD occurrences or
start and stop times. Valid values are UnixWare
file or pathnames. The default is sap.log.
-
Maximum Messages Logged to SAP File.
This variable specifies the maximum number of messages
that will be logged in the file specified
by the SAP log file parameter. The 0
value disables logging. The default is 300.
-
SAP Dump Filename.
This variable specifies the name of the file
that receives output when SAPD dumps SAP tables.
Dump is initiated by sending SAPD a SIGPIPE
and is used
for debugging. Valid values are UnixWare filenames. The
default is sap.dump.
-
SAP Track Filename.
This variable specifies the device that displays tracking
messages showing SAP packets when ``track on'' is
used. Valid values are UnixWare file or
pathnames or /dev/console.
-
SAP Run-time Priority.
This variable sets a value that specifies the
running priority for SAPD relative to other processes
and is used to give SAP a higher
priority than other
processes. The default is 15.
