To connect an application to sjxm, so that Japanese characters may be input, press <Shift><Henkan> (Japanese 106 keyboard) or <Ctrl>\ (English 101 keyboard). The application is connected to sjxm, and the input method starts in pre-edit mode.
To end the input method, press <Shift><Henkan> (Japanese 106 keyboard) or <Ctrl>\ (English 101 keyboard).
When the application is connected, a status bar appears at the bottom of the application window. In the lower left corner, an icon is displayed which indicates the current input mode. Next to this are ten buttons corresponding to the function keys <F1> to <F10>. These can be accessed directly from the keyboard, or by using the mouse.
All Motif applications should be able to use sjxm. However, depending on how the window manager is configured, the <F10> function key may not reach sjxm. In this case, use the mouse instead.
