Inputting Japanese characters

Converting to kanji

To convert romaji and kana characters to kanji:

  1. Select the input mode and enter the string to be converted.

  2. Press <Space>. The cursor on the screen disappears, and the string between the vertical bars is converted and highlighted.

  3. If the conversion is not the desired one:

    1. Press <Space> to show another choice with the same phonetic reading (a homonym). If you wish to accept this choice, go to step 5.

    2. Press <Space> a second time to show another homonym. If you wish to accept this choice, go to step 5.

    3. Press <Space> a third time to display a table of all homonyms.

    4. To make a selection from this table, use the cursor keys to move around and press <Enter> to make a choice, or use the mouse. The homonym appears on the application window.

    5. Press <Esc> (or <Ctrl>G) to end the selection process.

  4. If you wish to undo the conversion, press <F3>.

  5. Press <Enter> to accept the highlighted string. This ends the pre-edit mode.
