Specifying the locale

Setting the console codeset

To set the console codeset, log in as root, invoke the International Settings Managerand:

  1. Select ``Code Set'' in the main screen and select Settings -> Modify , or simply double-click on ``Code Set''.

  2. Choose the the desired codeset and click on OK.

  3. Exit the International Settings Manager and reboot the system.

The system console is not actually a single device, but rather a combination of both the console keyboard and the console monitor. Selecting the console codeset will install a console font (see vidi(1)), establish the list of available system keyboard mapping files, and establish any additional mapping required if the console codeset is not the same as the internal system codeset.
