Specifying a NetWare login ID
The NetWare® login ID/UNIX login ID pair for a particular user
can be used in the following ways:
-
The system specifies the NetWare login ID for a user automatically
whenever that user needs to authenticate to NetWare services located
on the same SCO system. This includes:
-
logging in to the NetWare Server for SCO
-
using printers defined on the NetWare Print Server for SCO
-
logging into NetWare Directory Services (NDS) for SCO
-
Files created by the NetWare login ID on NetWare Server volumes defined
on your SCO system will be owned by the associated SCO system user
when the files are viewed from the SCO system side.
-
The NetWare Server administrator can specify that users cannot access
NetWare Services on your system unless they have both a NetWare login ID
and a UNIX system login ID.
-
The NetWare Server administrator can specify that UNIX system permissions
(rather than NetWare effective rights) are to be checked before granting
a NetWare user access to server files and other resources.
The NetWare login ID must be a completely specified NDS context identifier.
Type names are optional. For example, these two IDs are
equivalent:
CN=user1.OU=sales.O=sco
user1.sales.sco
The UNIX system only validates the format of the NDS context you provide,
it does not perform an NDS lookup of the given NDS name. The name will be
validated each time you attempt to access NetWare services running on your
SCO system.
You can also use the UNIX system commands
useradd(1M)
and
usermod(1M)
to establish UNIX/NetWare user mappings, even if the NetWare Services
package is not installed.
