Compressing and encrypting data

When backing up files you can apply either encryption or compression, or both. In order to use encryption, you need a Client Agent that supports that feature. In addition, you can apply either encryption or compression locally to a particular volume, or globally to the entire backup job.

Encypting data files during backup

To encrypt data files during backup, following the steps below:

To encrypt files on a per job basis:

Select the Options button from the ARCserveIT Menu Button bar, then select the Session Password tab.

To encrypt files on a per volume basis:

Once the volume is selected, click on the Session Password tab.

The Session Password dialog box appears.

The Session/Encryption password entered will be used as the encryption key.

Compressing data files during backup

To apply a software-type compression to the files selected for backup, follow the steps below:

To compress files on a per job basis:

Select the Options button from the ARCserveIT Menu Button bar, then select the Session Password tab.

To compress files on a per volume basis:

Once the volume is selected, click on the Session Password tab.
