This log helps you manage your GFS backups. It gives you information about your previous backup and helps you prepare for your next backup. Each GFS rotation set has its own Daily Log. The log is divided into three sections.
The first section gives you the information you need to label your media from the last backup that was performed. This information includes the host file server, media pool name, set name, media name, and backup type. We recommend that you put all of this information, exactly as it appears, on a label on your media.
The second section informs you when the next GFS rotation backup is scheduled and tells you which media are needed. If you will need to overwrite an existing media, the name and the date of this media will be listed. Any media that should be retired are listed as well.
The third section contains details about the last backup. The date and time of the backup as well as the details of the backup are listed. Any errors that occurred and re-scheduling of makeup jobs are also included.
All GFS Daily Log files have a .dly extension. The file name is the set name.
When you go to view this log you will be asked to select which GFS set's Daily Log you would like to see.
Unless your user profile is configured with the proper permissions, when you view this log you will only see information about the GFS rotation jobs you submitted. In order to see information about all of the GFS rotation jobs, regardless of who submitted them, your profile must be configured with the those permissions. See Setting up User Profiles for more information.
If you are running GFS rotation jobs, you should look at this log each day so that you can physically label your media and retrieve the media that is needed next.
