Recovering the ARCserveIT database
If you have lost the information on your ARCserveIT host, you will need to recover the ARCserveIT database before restoring any other information on your host, or any remote clients.
Follow the steps below to restore the database.
1. Insert the media containing the most recent backup of your entire ARCserveIT host.
If you have a backup of your host, then the ARCserveIT database will be a separate session on that media. Put this media into the drive.
2. From the ARCserveIT server's home page, select Scan.
The Scan Manager appears. Select the media you want to scan, then click to scan All Sessions on the media.
3. Click source and scan all the sessions on that media.
Remember to send this report to a file on disk, so that you have a permanent record. You will need to look at this report to see which session contains the ARCserveIT database.
4. Note the session number.
When the scan is finished, the report you created looks similar to the following:
Note the session that contains the ARCserveIT database. This is the session that will have to be restored.
5. Open the Restore Manager window.
6. Choose the "Restore by Backup Media" view.
Since there is no database information on the host, you will need to manually restore the database.
7. Select the media to use for the restore.
Select the group and media that you just scanned. Specify the session number that contains the ARCserveIT database.
8. Select the destination tab.
The destination directory is the ARCserveIT database directory, $ARC_HOME/dbase.
9. Click the Submit button to run the job.
After the database is restored, you can use the Restore Manager's Tree View to recover any client that was backed up.
