Administration
Advanced Server Administration describes a variety of installation and configuration tasks that will help you to get Advanced Server for UNIX® Systems installed and operational. It also describes various tools that you can use to administer and troubleshoot Advanced Server.
Before installing or upgrading Advanced Server, you should read Advanced Server Concepts and Planning. You also should be familiar with the UNIX® operating system.
Advanced Server Administration contains the following information:
Chapter 1, "Installing Advanced Server," describes how to install Advanced Server either as a primary or backup domain controller. It also includes instructions on how to install the following packages:
Manual Pages, which contains UNIX system commands and API descriptions
Administrative Tools, which contains client-based network administrative tools
Microsoft® Clients, which contains network client software
This chapter also describes how to remove Advanced Server, re-install a primary domain controller, and move a LAN Manager server to an Advanced Server domain.
Chapter 2, "Upgrading Advanced Server," describes how to upgrade earlier versions of Advanced Server and LAN Manager for UNIX Systems to Advanced Server, Version 4.0.
Chapter 3, "Installing Network and Administrative Client Software," provides a list of supported network clients and describes how to perform the following activities:
Create network client installation diskettes.
Install Windows NT Administrative Tools on a Windows NT Workstation Version 4.0 computer.
Install AS/U Administrator on a Windows NT Workstation computer
Install Windows NT Server Tools on a Windows® 95 workstation.
Chapter 4, "Administering Advanced Server at the Command Prompt," lists and describes the UNIX system and Net commands that you can use to administer Advanced Server.
Chapter 5, "Implementing WINS," describes how to implement and configure the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) on Advanced Server.
Chapter 6, "Troubleshooting" provides a high-level approach to resolving server problems and identifies the various tools available for this purpose.
Appendix A, "Advanced Server Registry" summarizes the Registry structure, describes the AS/U Administrator, and lists Advanced Server Registry keys and values.
Appendix B, "Lanman.ini File," lists and defines the parameters in the lanman.ini file. It also shows how parameters from earlier versions of the lanman.ini file are mapped to Advanced Server Registry keys.
