File Attributes filter

Use the File Attributes filter to include or exclude specific types of files from a job. The File Attributes filter allows you to filter files based on whether they are hidden, system, archive, read only, or any combination of the four.

This filter is only for files on non-UNIX machines, and does not apply to UNIX platforms. In addition, the File Attributes filter is only available if you have purchased ARCserveIT Client Agents for non-UNIX servers.

The File Attributes filter can be applied locally (per host) and/or globally (per job). For procedural information see `Applying filters - the basic steps'.

Steps for applying the File Attributes filter

Follow the procedure below to filter files based on their file attributes:

If you select Include, only files whose attributes match the ones that you specify will be backed up or restored.

If you select Exclude, all files will be backed up or restored EXCEPT for those whose attributes match what you specify.

There are four types of file attributes you can choose from. Select as many file types as you want.

• Hidden - These are files that you cannot see when you get a directory listing. Examples of hidden files are NET$OBJ.SYS and NTDETECT.COM.
• System - Files of this type are unique to NetWare servers.
• Read Only - Files marked read-only are files that cannot be modified.
• Archive - Files whose archive bit is set.

You can add as many filters to a job as per your requirements. ARCserveIT will only back up or restore the files that match the requirements that you specify.

If you are applying the filter locally (per host), it will be applied when the job is run. If you are applying the filter globally (per host), proceed to Step 5.
