Merge and Scan options

ARCserveIT provides several types of advanced merge and scan options, accessed from the Options button located on the ARCserveIT Menu Bar.

These options include:

Descriptions of the available merge and scan options are described below:

Pre/Post operations

Pre/Post options allow you to run a command on your machine before and/or after the job is executed. For example, you may want to use this option to load a virus scanning application before files are backed up and then run a batch file you created that sends a detailed report to the printer

Available Pre/Post options include:

Run Command Before Job - Enter the path to and name of the file to be executed on the machine before the job is executed.

On Exit Code - ARCserveIT detects exit codes of other programs. You can specify the following options for a particular exit code:

Creating Log files

The Log options determine the level of detail that is included in the log report for the operation, and allows you to specify output devices for the activity log information. Unlike the Activity log which displays the results of all jobs on a given server, the Log option provides the ability to create a log file containing only the information associated with the specific job. The log file is accessed via the Report Manager and is shown under the User Log listing with the name it has been assigned.

Log File Name - When creating a log file for a merge or scan job, you must enter a name for the file into this field.

The use of forward slashes ("/") and/or backslashes ("\") is not permitted when entering the Log File Name. If they are used the log file will not display within the Report Manager window.

Once a name is entered for the log file, the following options can be utilized:

Log Summary Only - Record summary information of the job and errors. Includes source, destination, session number, and totals.

Specify Output devices for Activity Log - You can use the Alert notification system to send messages about events in your scan or merge operation. Output devices include:

Database recording

Allows you to record detailed information or job and session information only.

Record Detail Information - records detailed information for each job including the session and each file name within that session.

Record Job and Session Information Only - records only the job and sessions within that job.

Media Rules

Allows you to specify a timeout period ARCserveIT should wait for you to provide the media you want to merge. Available Media Rules are:

Timeout for the First Media - Period of time that ARCserveIT waits for the first media required for your merge or scan job. If the time expires and the first media has not been provided, the job will fail. By default, ARCserveIT will wait five minutes.

Timeout for Additional Media - Period of time that ARCserveIT waits for any additional media to become available. By default, there is no timeout.
