Upgrading a LAN Manager server to an Advanced Server primary domain controller occurs automatically during installation of Advanced Server. The installation script upgrades all saved data items and files from the LAN Manager server. This includes groups, users, and access control lists.
To upgrade a LAN Manager server to an Advanced Server primary domain controller
1. Log on to the UNIX system as root.
2. Remove LAN Manager as described in your LAN Manager for UNIX Systems documentation. Be sure to save any data and configuration files that you want to re-use.
3. Insert the Advanced Server installation medium into the appropriate drive.
4. Type the following command and press ENTER:
pkgadd -d devicename
Replace devicename with the appropriate device name.
5. Type the number that corresponds with asuserver and press ENTER.
If you did not remove LAN Manager, the system terminates the upgrade procedure and prompts you to remove it with the following message:
Configuration files from a previous installation of LAN Manager for UNIX or Advanced Server 3.51 for UNIX Systems are present on this computer. This installation can either upgrade or delete these files.
Do you want to upgrade these files [y/n]?
6. Type y and press ENTER.
Warning
If you type n, all of your previously-saved LAN Manager files will be deleted, including the user accounts database, access control lists, and the lanman.ini file.
The system begins the installation process, incorporating and updating the saved files, and adding the server to the protocol stack.
The LAN Manager accounts.lmx file is renamed accounts.lm2 in Advanced Server and is stored in the /var/opt/lanman/datafiles directory. Individual user accounts and access control lists are upgraded. The Guest account will be upgraded and set to "inactive."
When you see the following message, you have completed the upgrade to primary domain controller:
Installation of <asuserver> was successful.
